Telephone Hybrid
In (radio) studios, a so-called telephone hybrid is often used. A telephone hybrid provides the ability to conduct a phone conversation via a mixing console with connected microphone and headphones. This way, a caller can be involved in a radio broadcast. It's also possible to record a phone interview through the telephone hybrid.
To connect VoIP telephony to a telephone hybrid, an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) is used. The ATA converts IP to analog. The ATA has a network port and one or more analog telephone connections. Each analog line requires a VoIP account.
The functionality of the telephone hybrid remains the same when using an ATA in combination with VoIP telephony.
