Fields
Name: The name used when selecting a call menu in the routing.
Description: Self-explanatory; purely administrative and not required.
Timeout: The number of seconds a caller has to enter a choice. Default is 10 seconds. After this, if the maximum number of attempts has been reached, the call is routed to the timeout/failed step.
Number of attempts: The number of attempts a caller has to enter a valid choice. After this, the call is routed to the timeout/failed step. Which keys are valid depends on what is set in the routing. Default is 3 attempts.
Start message: Optional; the message that is played when a caller enters the call menu.
Error message: Optional; the message that is played when a caller has exceeded the number of attempts to make a valid choice, as set above.
Timeout message: Optional; the message that is played when a caller has not entered any choice for longer than the number of seconds set in the Timeout field.
Setting up routing
A call menu routing can look like this:
You always build a Call Menu from a new Dial plan. When a call menu is selected in the Dial plan, two routing steps with options are initially created, the last of which is called 'other/failed'. This must always exist. If a caller exceeds the maximum number of attempts, they will be routed to what is set below, in this case to a call group, but it could also be a voicemail.
In the other option routing steps, a key can be selected: the digits 0 through 9, * and #. You can create as many options as you want by selecting a destination after each option. However, each option can appear at most once in a call menu.
It is also possible to create deeper sub-call menus. This can be done in a 'nested' way, see the following example:
Here, a second call menu is created which a caller enters if they choose option 2 in the 'main menu'. As an extra feature, the caller is routed back to the main menu when exceeding the number of attempts, thanks to the jump routing step.
