In general, most internet connections are suitable for Voys services. However, there are several points to keep in mind. Below are some tips and tricks:
- Ensure sufficient bandwidth. Pay particular attention to the upload capacity of your connection. You can test this through a speedtest. If your internet connection has insufficient capacity, consider requesting an additional internet line for your VoIP phones.
- Connect devices directly. Always connect phones directly to the modem/router of your internet connection. An additional router in your network often causes problems.
- Allow Voys through your firewall. Strictly configured firewalls can cause audio and connection problems. In this case, ensure that the IP range of Voys is allowed for the VoIP phones. Simply opening ports is often not sufficient.
- Limit bandwidth for cloud-based services. Limit the bandwidth of cloud-based services such as Dropbox and WeTransfer. These can cause your internet connection to become congested, resulting in lower call quality.
- Avoid using WiFi bridges and Powerline adapters. Avoid using wireless WiFi bridges and Powerline adapters to extend your network. These can cause reduced voice signal quality. Always use CAT 5/6 network cables.
- Consider setting up Quality of Service. If your router has Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities, you can make use of them. QoS functions don't work equally well in every router. Not every router has such a function. When you want to configure QoS, always use the IP range of our platform to prioritize telephony / reserve bandwidth.
- Office complexes with a single NAT router. In shared office buildings, an internet connection is often shared by multiple businesses. Always inquire with the network administrator about available (and guaranteed) bandwidth and the possibilities for VoIP services. Also ask if there is a single NAT router in the network. Multiple routers in the network often cause problems.
The tips above will help you to make and receive calls without disruptions.
